SUSAN BIEBUYCK: Cereal Box Painter

Picture

I, Susan Biebuyck, am working on trash!
Known as a food artist, I decided to flip the idea and paint on food containers. Sometimes I paint about food, or sometimes it’s a subject with a link to the specific container. I like to lend a hand to the environment, recycling and using the containers’ rich colors and shapes to intensify my work.

I like to see text and odd colors peek through my subject matter. In these works, I like having fun with the energy of patterns and color. I had to learn new ways to gesso these works to keep them archival and allow me to use oil paints over the many glossy/plastic surfaces.

Sue is the Gallery Director and Curator for exhibits at Studio B in Boyertown and was an inaugural GoggleWorks studio artist from 2005-2012. Her work has traveled to eleven countries abroad. Susan attended and exhibited in the 2013 Amsterdam Fringe Festival, and the 2014 New Zealand Fringe Festival. She has curated and exhibited in Twin Cities cultural exchange between Reading, Pennsylvania and Reutlingen, Germany annually, since 2010
